St. Giles Presbyterian Church established a Mother’s Morning Out in 1977. Approximately 10 years later, it was renamed St. Giles Preschool with the school falling under the umbrella of the Witness Committee of the Church.
Our Preschool Board consists of members from the Christian Education Committee, Witness Committee, Parent Representatives, Teacher Representatives and the Director of the Preschool.
Our philosophy is that Preschool is the first important step in a child’s formal education outside the home. It is the Preschool that lays the foundation for all future school experiences, and we make every effort to insure that it is a positive and fulfilling experience in every way.
We want the change from home to school to be a happy one for the child, one where he or she feels safe and secure.
Over the years, our teachers and staff have developed a curriculum which is developmentally appropriate; socially, emotionally, and spiritually. We value the child as an individual, and provide real time and space for the environment of Early Childhood Education – learning through play.
Our curriculum is a theme-based, teacher created curriculum, and includes the 'Read It Once, Read It Twice, Read It Once Again' literacy program. This program reinforces rhyme, rhythm, and repetition, which is a powerful tool for creating a language rich environment in our classrooms.
St. Giles Preschool children attend chapel and music classes twice a month. We also offer Kinderdance, Kindergym, and computer classes.
The Preschool has an annual Fall Festival, Christmas Program, Art Show and Sale, Graduation Program for the four year old classes, and Year-End Program.
We are a very diverse school with children from several different countries in attendance. We are very proud of the fact that St. Giles has had a partnership for several years with BMW as one of their 'Schools of Choice.'
